Changing those habits as an adult is so difficult to do. On a daily basis, I feel the impact of my parents' relationships with their emotions. When you have a parent with anger issues, it leaves an imprint. As a kid, I would lash back out. When I got older, I internalized the anger, allowing it to deaden me until I'd finally explode into tears.
Allowing yourself to have feelings and then move on from, not taking them out on anyone in the process, is surprisingly difficult when you were raised without this as an example and thus without it as an option.
