I think the problem for me is always that I set my expectations too high. If I set a daily habit, particularly one that's time-consuming, as soon as I miss a single day of it, I'm less likely to return to it. If my goal or intention is more fluid, I'm less likely to see a down-tick as a failure and am thus more likely to return to whatever it is.
